First of all FYI I'm using AmazonSES and I'm loving it.
uhmm sorry ... I'm loving it because it's integrates easy and fast with my apps. Mandgrill, Sendgrid are great service with Big features such as designing your template easy , analytics , and much much more.
So in a nutshell :

Are great products if you want to have more time for your APP vs API
AMAZON SES:
is simple , fast , and cot effective.
so go at both sites and look what's better for you.
